Summarize written text is the first task in the PTE Writing section, which is seen after you finish the PTE Speaking section. As a result, when you see the Summarize Written Text task on the screen, it will present you with a reading text that needs to be summarized into a single sentence between five and 75 words. In general, the reading text consists of 150-200 words and you are given 10 minutes to complete it. Similarly, if you get two Summarize Written Text questions and one Write Essay question, then the total time for the writing section is 40 minutes. To accomplish this task, you should focus entirely on summing up the passage into a single complex sentence.

For the Summarize Written Text task, the expectation is to produce a single sentence that is compound and complex, meaning it has a main clause and one or more supporting clauses. A good reader means you can quickly read the passage and understand it well. If you lack reading skills, you should first focus on improving them. Not only should you write down 6-8 keywords and key phrases, but also should you write down the main idea of the passage, the theme that the passage is based on.
