PTE Exam Format



 What is the new PTE format, and are you preparing for it? Do you know that the PTE test format has changed since November 2021? The PTE Test format was earlier 3 hours, but now it has been reduced to around 2 hours. Additionally, the timing for various sections of the PTE exam has also been reduced. Additionally, near the end of the PTE reading section, near 29-30 minutes have been reduced, which can help PTE test takers complete the exam faster. PTE has introduced a new format for its exam, which does not change the personal introduction, read aloud, or repeat sentence sections, However, there are fewer described images, and there are fewer tasks in the retell lecture section. As a result, the writing section will consist of just 1 to 2 summary written texts instead of the previous 2 to 3. Your essay writing task has remained unchanged, resulting in a significant reduction in speaking and writing questions to 28 to 36.

The next section is Listening. According to the PTE exam format, the listening fill in the blanks, highlight incorrect words, and write from dictation have not changed. But the summarize spoken text, multiple choice, multiple answers, highlight correct summary, multiple choice, correct answer, and select missing word have been reduced from 2 to 3 to 1 to 2. PTE test reports will change after November 2021 as well. Your overall score and listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills scores remain untouched. Furthermore, speaking and writing sections have been reduced from 77-93 minutes to 54-67 minutes according to the new format. Also, the optional break of 10 minutes, which was part of the old format, has been removed. Overall, there are still a few things left the same. Additionally, the content of the new PTE academic exam will remain the same, so the level of difficulty will also remain the same. Your score requirements will also remain the same, so for example if you need to score 80, you will still have to score 80. As such, PTE scores will still be accepted by colleges and immigration departments worldwide.

Although the validity and difficulty remain intact as before, you might say that the difficulty level has been decreased slightly as a result of some questions getting eliminated, so overall it is good news for those taking the PTE. Also, the comparison between the PTE test and IELTS has also changed a bit in terms of band comparisons. As a result, you will notice that PTE exam bands are now higher than IELTS exam bands, so you are required to score lower, as per the new PTE format, to rank higher in IELTS.
